Important Safety Information

A message from UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA AT GREENSBORO

Between August 13 and August 23, 2015, there have been five robbery incidents in the area surrounding the UNCG campus. Although these robberies have not occurred on UNCG property, we recognize that members of our community are concerned. For that reason, the UNCG Police Department is working closely with the Greensboro Police to apprehend these suspects.

From all of the information gathered thus far, four of these robberies appear to be connected. Two took place on Mendenhall Street, one occurred at Carr and McIver Streets, and the most recent, the robbery of a food delivery driver, took place on Joyner Street. The robberies have occurred on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m.

There appears to be two suspects in common with these robberies. The first is a dark-skinned male, 6’-6’2”, 160-175 lbs. with short dreadlocks or braids. This suspect is reported to be carrying a black, semi-automatic handgun. The second suspect description varies, but is reported to be a medium brown-skinned male with a shaved or close-cut hair style, 160-200 lbs. The locations of the robberies indicate that the suspects may reside in the general area east of campus.

When walking at night, stay near well-lit areas and walk in groups if at all possible. Always be attentive to your surroundings. People who are engrossed in their mobile devices and unaware of their surroundings make much easier targets for criminals.

If you work as a food delivery driver making deliveries to the area, call the phone number of the person receiving the delivery. If you receive a message that the number is no longer in service, consider not making the delivery.

Most importantly, if you see anything suspicious, call 911 or the UNCG Police at 334-4444.

Anyone with information about these crimes is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers at (336) 373-1000.
