The city decided to pick up the downed trees and other debris from the March ice storm after all. They got started, at least, today on Mendenhall and other streets.

It’s just two highly suspenseful weeks until Election Day for the May primary. You may say, “It’s only the primary,” but, come on, this could be at least as much fun as any other off-year election.
Early voting begins this week.
The Democratic, Libertarian and Republican composite ballots can be accessed from the Guilford County Board of Elections homepage.
All, or at least most, of what you need to know about voting in College Hill is contained on our new election-info webpage, located in the Neighborhood Information section.
Candidate forum
To learn more about the candidates for our state House and Senate districts, there will be a candidate forum for local legislative districts on Thursday April 24, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the GTCC Jamestown campus. It’s sponsored by the local League of Women Voters, Guilford Association of Educators, Greensboro NAACP and several other groups.
So don’t forget to vote. And don’t forget our polling place is at The Province now for some reason.
A woman was robbed at gunpoint at about 8:20 p.m. Friday in the 800 block of Walker Avenue. Click here for a report on the WGHP-TV website.
Robberies like this are rare in College Hill, extremely rare compared to high-crime areas of the city. But it’s a reminder that we can’t take anything for granted. If you’re interested in helping make the neighborhood safer, the College Hill Neighborhood Watch meets next Monday, April 28, 6:30 p.m., Church of the Covenant Fellowship Hall. The Neighborhood Watch has drawn little interest from the neighborhood in recent years. If you’d like to do something to change that, come and share your concerns.
For what it’s worth, the News & Record also reported the robbery. In contrast to the detailed description of the robber provided by WGHP, the N&R reported, uselessly and apparently in error, that the police had only an incomplete description of the man.
The “Neighborhood Info” page of the website now provides an improved map of College Hill and a link to the county’s online map viewer.
The map at the right is available as a PDF. It was created for us by neighborhood planner Jeff Sovich of the city Planning Department.
Jeff also has provided a link to the online map viewer on the Guilford County GIS website. The site provides ownership information and other attributes of any parcel in the county. The link zooms to College Hill automatically.
For those who don’t know Jeff, he’s leading the finalization of the College Hill neighborhood plan. He’s a terrific advocate for the neighborhood, and we appreciate his efforts immensely.
A list of homes currently for sale in College Hill has been added to the website. It includes single-family homes, condos and townhouses, and current rental properties that could be converted back into single-family, owner-occupied homes. If you notice any omissions or any changes in the status of these listings, please email David Arneke.
The Greensboro Police have provided the College Hill Neighborhood Association with the following alert:
“Please be aware that we currently have received complaints of a older model white Chevy Astro van driven by 2 black males and have a black male child with them approximately 12 yrs old. The van has a red emblem on the side. They come to your house and try to show you flooring. While you are distracted and looking at flooring the child goes around and steals items from your home.
Also, we have seen an increase in burglaries particularly in 140 zone (along W. Cone Blvd corridor between Battleground and Elm). Suspects are 2-3 black males driving a white Kia van or car. They go to the rear of the house and kick in the back doors. They are removing jewelry and electronics.
If you see either of these suspects or any suspicious activity please reports it to the police. Call 911.”
