Volunteers Sought for Pop-up Dog Park

Do you love dogs? Are you looking for a way to contribute to your city? In mid-March, the South Elm Pop-up Dog Park will be ramping up for the spring season. If you would be interested in supporting the dog park for the next few months, either by helping to keep it clean and functioning well or by helping to plan events to hold there, please contact Dyan Arkin, Senior Planner in the Greensboro Planning Department at 336-433-7377. Dyan will keep a list of those who are interested and contact the volunteers when a meeting time is set.

New Dates for Duke Energy’s Tree Trimming

Duke Energy will perform routine tree trimming in the College Hill Historic District during UNCG’s spring break period (approximately March 10 to 17, 2014). Contractors doing the trimming will follow ANSI pruning standards.  Removing a tree within the Historic District requires Historic Preservation Commission approval, while routine pruning requires only city staff approval.

Call for Prospective Board Members

Are you looking for a way to serve your neighborhood? The College Hill Neighborhood Association is seeking College Hill residents who are interesting in serving on the 2014-2015 association board.

Board members provide input into discussions at monthly meetings (which are held within College Hill) and vote on motions including those affecting the expenditure of Municipal Service District funds. The neighborhood association board also votes on whether or not to support Certificate of Appropriateness (CoA) applications brought to the Historic Preservation Commission. More information about the CHNA can be found on the association website.

A total of 11 board members will be elected in February 2014. Interested individuals may have their names added to the ballot to serve as president, vice president, treasurer, secretary, or board member. If you are interested in serving, please email Judy Horn by Feb. 22 to have your name added to the ballot or to learn more about serving on the board.

It’s a Girl!

The population of College Hill increased by one this week! Congratulations to CHNA Treasurer Marjorie Bagley and husband Ian Beatty on the birth of their daughter Eleanor Rose. The proud new parents and their darling daughter are all doing well.

In College Hill: Free Silent Movie with Live Music

At 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, there will be a free showing of the 1902 classic silent film Le Voyage Dans La Lune at the Presbyterian Church of the Covenant, 501 S. Mendenhall St., Greensboro. The original music by Antonio Truyols will be performed live by the award-winning Quintet Sirocco reed quintet. A reception will follow. The public is welcome to attend this free event.

Thanks to Pi Kappa Alpha for Springdale Park Cleanup

This past weekend members of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity worked at Springdale Park on Spring Garden Street. They raked leaves and did general park clean up.  The College Hill Neighborhood Association sends a big THANK YOU to Pi Kappa Alpha for their work and continued interest in Springdale Park.
